Rear Main Crankshaft Seal for Hyundai/Kia Engines
Why this part is needed
This seal keeps engine oil inside the block where the crankshaft exits toward the gearbox. It prevents leaks at a high-stress point, protecting the clutch or torque converter and keeping oil pressure stable. A healthy seal means a clean bellhousing, steady oil level, and longer engine life.
How it works
A heat‑resistant elastomer lip, supported by a garter spring, hugs the crankshaft flange. Under rotation, the lip forms a micro-hydrodynamic film that guides oil back into the engine. The outer shell locks into the rear cover, while precise edge tension resists crankcase pulses and heat cycles.
What happens if it fails
Expect oil drips at the engine–transmission joint, clutch slip on manuals, burning smell from oil on exhaust, and messy underbody. Continued leaks risk low oil level, bearing wear, and contaminated mounts. Left unchecked, repairs get pricier due to soaked clutch friction or converter dust shields.
