Cooling System Pressure Cap Assembly

This small cap is a big deal in your engine’s cooling system. It seals the radiator or coolant reservoir neck and holds the correct pressure so coolant can circulate and remove heat efficiently. When pressure is controlled, the boiling point of coolant rises, helping prevent overheating during traffic, towing, or hot weather ?️.

Why this part is needed

Modern engines run hot by design. A pressure cap keeps the cooling system sealed, allowing stable pressure and proper coolant flow between the radiator, hoses, and overflow tank.

How it works

Inside the cap are spring-loaded valves. The main valve holds pressure to a set rating; when pressure gets too high, it opens to release excess coolant to the overflow. As the engine cools, a vacuum valve opens to pull coolant back in, preventing hose collapse and air pockets ?️.

What happens if it’s broken

A weak seal or stuck valve can cause coolant loss, overheating, poor cabin heat, swelling or collapsing hoses, and frequent low-coolant warnings. In worst cases, repeated overheating can damage the head gasket and radiator.
