Engine Pre‑Heater Coolant Hose Assembly

This direct‑fit molded coolant hose feeds the pre‑heater circuit on Subaru boxer engines. It keeps warm coolant flowing during cold starts for faster warm‑up, smooth idle, and quick cabin heat. Built from heat‑resistant EPDM with kink‑free bends, it’s designed for stable flow and long life. OEM ref: 21204AB230.

Why you need it ❄️

On cold mornings, the pre‑heater loop warms the intake area and assists defrost. This hose is the link that carries coolant through that loop. A healthy hose protects against icing, reduces emissions at start‑up, and improves driver comfort.

How it works

The hose connects the bypass side of the cooling system to the pre‑heater passages. Even when the thermostat is closed, coolant circulates through this line, stabilizing temperatures. Molded angles prevent collapse, while OE‑style spring clamps maintain sealing under pressure and vibration.

What happens if it fails ⚠️

Cracks, swelling, or soft spots lead to leaks, sweet coolant smell, and low level. Expect poor cabin heat, rough cold starts, and potential overheating. Air pockets may trigger hot spots and, in severe cases, head gasket damage. Coolant on belts can cause squeal and premature wear.

Install tips ✅

Work on a cold engine, relieve pressure, drain a little coolant, and replace both clamps. Lightly lubricate fittings, seat the hose fully, and bleed the system after refill. Use Subaru‑approved coolant and recheck for seepage after a short drive.
