Engine Thermostat Assembly for Subaru Cooling System

This thermostat assembly is a key cooling control part that helps your Subaru engine reach the correct working temperature fast, then keeps it stable. It is needed to prevent overheating in traffic and to avoid running too cold on open roads, which wastes fuel and increases engine wear.

How It Works ️

Inside the housing is a temperature-sensitive valve. When the coolant is cold, the valve stays closed, so coolant circulates mainly inside the engine for quick warm-up. As temperature rises, the valve opens and sends coolant through the radiator to release heat. This balance protects the head gasket, keeps heater performance strong, and supports proper ECU fuel control.

Signs of Failure & What Can Happen ⚠️

If Stuck Closed

Coolant can’t reach the radiator, causing rapid overheating, possible warped cylinder heads, blown head gasket, and boiling coolant.

If Stuck Open

The engine may run too cool, giving weak cabin heat, poor fuel economy, rough running, sludge buildup, and higher internal wear.
