How It Works
Inside the housing is a temperature-sensitive valve. When the engine is cold, the valve stays closed to keep coolant in the engine, speeding warm-up. As coolant temperature rises, the valve opens smoothly and allows flow to the radiator for heat removal. This steady regulation prevents big temperature swings during city driving, highway cruising, or idling.
What Happens If It’s Broken

Coolant can’t reach the radiator, causing quick overheating, boiling, loss of cabin heat control, and possible head-gasket or cylinder-head damage .
