This coupling assembly is a key link between the engine drive and the cooling fan. It is needed to keep airflow through the radiator steady, especially in slow traffic, hot weather, and when the AC is working. A healthy coupling helps the engine stay in the correct temperature range, protecting the head gasket, radiator, and coolant system.
How It Works ⚙️
The unit transfers rotation while allowing controlled slip, so the fan speed matches cooling demand. When the engine gets hotter, the coupling tightens its drive effect, spinning the fan stronger to pull more air. When cooling demand drops, it relaxes to reduce drag, noise, and wasted fuel.
Why Replacing It Matters ?
If the coupling is worn or broken, the fan may freewheel, causing overheating, weak cabin AC at idle, and temperature spikes after a short stop. In severe cases it can lead to coolant boiling, warped cylinder head, damaged fan blades, or belt strain. A failing coupling may also cause roaring fan noise or vibration.
