EVAP Charcoal Canister for Mitsubishi

This component is a key part of the EVAP (evaporative emission) system. Its job is to stop fuel vapor from escaping the tank into the air. Instead of wasting fumes and creating a fuel smell, the canister stores vapors safely and helps the engine burn them later.

Why this part is needed

Fuel naturally evaporates, especially in warm weather. This unit traps those vapors and keeps the system sealed, helping emissions compliance and stable fuel economy.

How it works

Inside is activated carbon (charcoal). Vapors flow in and get absorbed. When driving, the purge valve opens and engine vacuum pulls the stored vapor into the intake to be burned normally βœ….

What happens if it’s broken

A cracked housing, saturated charcoal, or blocked ports can trigger:

  • Check Engine light (EVAP leak/flow codes)
  • Fuel smell near the car
  • Hard refuel or pump clicking off early
  • Rough idle after filling, poor drivability in some cases
  • Failed emissions test ❌
