Engine Coolant Reserve Tank Cap Assembly
This cap assembly seals the coolant reserve/overflow tank so the cooling system can work safely under heat and pressure changes. It is needed to keep coolant from splashing out, reduce air entry, and help the system maintain the correct vacuum/return flow when the engine cools down.
How It Works ⚙️
Inside the cap are sealing surfaces that lock onto the tank neck. As coolant expands, extra fluid moves into the reserve tank. When the engine cools, the system draws coolant back through the hose, and the cap helps keep that path tight so the level stays stable.
What Happens If It’s Broken ❗
A cracked or loose cap can cause coolant smell, stains around the tank, low coolant level, and air bubbles in the system. Over time this may lead to overheating, weak cabin heat, and corrosion inside the cooling passages.

- Replace if the seal is hard, swollen, or the cap won’t lock firmly.
