Engine Cooling Fan Motor (Radiator Fan Drive) π‘οΈπ οΈ
This unit powers the radiator fan to keep engine temperature stable in traffic, hot weather, and when the A/C is running. When airflow through the radiator is too low, coolant canβt release heat fast enoughβthis motor spins the fan to pull air through the core and prevent overheating.
Why this part is needed β
At low speed or idle, natural airflow is weak. The fan motor replaces that missing airflow so the radiator and condenser can do their job, protecting the head gasket, hoses, and automatic transmission cooler (if equipped).
How it works βοΈ
The ECU or a thermo switch triggers a relay, sending power to the motor. The motor turns the fan blades at one or more speeds, ramping cooling based on temperature and A/C demand.
What happens if it fails π¨
- Temperature rises at idle, especially with A/C on
- Coolant boiling, overflow, or warning light
- A/C becomes weak due to poor condenser cooling
- Risk of warped head, blown gasket, and costly repairs
Compatibility π
- Hiace
- Hiace/Regiusace
