Why you need it ️
Engines create heat; at low speed there isn’t enough natural airflow. This fan moves air when you idle or crawl, preventing overheating, power loss, oil breakdown, and pinging. It also helps A/C performance at stoplights.
How it works
The blade bolts to the viscous clutch on the water pump. As coolant warms, the clutch engages, spinning the fan to draw air through the shroud and radiator fins. The blade pitch builds pressure at low rpm for reliable cooling in hot, slow conditions.
If it’s broken ⚠️
Cracked or warped blades cause wobble, noise, and may cut the shroud or pierce the radiator. Signs include temperature spikes in traffic, weak A/C at idle, coolant smell, and fan vibration. Driving on can lead to head-gasket failure and warped cylinder heads.
Install tips
Inspect the viscous clutch for leaks, torque bolts evenly, keep correct rotation, verify 3–5 mm shroud clearance, and hand-rotate before first start.
