Why this part is needed

The viscous fan clutch engages the radiator fan when under-hood heat rises. At low speeds it pulls strong airflow through the radiator and condenser; at cruise it slips to cut drag and noise. This prevents overheating, boiling coolant, and power loss.

How it works

Inside is silicone fluid and a bi‑metal thermal spring. As air leaving the radiator gets hot, the spring opens a valve, increasing fluid shear between plates and locking the fan closer to pulley speed. When temps drop, it freewheels to save energy. No wiringβ€”pure mechanical control ️.
