Engine Oxygen Sensor (Air/Fuel Feedback)

This sensor is a key input for the ECU to keep the air-fuel mix correct. It is needed to meet emissions rules, protect the catalytic converter, and maintain smooth power and fuel economy. When the engine warms up, the sensor reads oxygen level in the exhaust stream and sends a fast-changing signal to the control unit.

How It Works βš™οΈ

Inside the tip is a ceramic element that reacts to exhaust oxygen. The ECU uses this feedback to adjust injector pulse and fine-tune combustion in real time. Most versions include a heater circuit, helping the sensor reach working temperature quickly for stable readings, even in stop-and-go driving.

Why Replacement Matters ️

If the sensor becomes slow, contaminated, or the heater fails, the ECU may run rich or lean. That can cause rough idle, weak acceleration, higher fuel use, failed emission tests, and early catalyst damage. Common signs include check-engine light, fuel smell, soot on tailpipe, or unstable RPM.
