Engine Air/Fuel Ratio Sensor (Linear Type) ?
This linear air/fuel sensor is a key input device for the engine computer. It is needed to keep the fuel mixture correct in real time, so your Mitsubishi runs smooth, clean, and fuel-efficient. Unlike simple oxygen sensors, the linear type gives a more precise signal, helping the ECU fine-tune injection during idle, cruising, and acceleration.
How it works ⚙️
Mounted in the exhaust stream, the sensor “reads” oxygen content and converts it into a voltage/current signal. The ECU uses that feedback to adjust injector pulse width and maintain the target air-to-fuel ratio. This improves throttle response, reduces emissions, and protects the catalytic converter.
When the sensor is failing ?
If the sensor becomes slow, contaminated, or electrically open/shorted, the ECU may switch to backup values. You may notice rough idle, higher fuel use, hesitation, black smoke, failed emission tests, or a check engine light. Driving too long with a bad reading can overheat the catalyst and cause carbon buildup inside the engine.
