Mitsubishi Diesel EGR Cooler Replacement ❄️
This EGR cooler lowers exhaust gas temperature before it returns to the intake. Cooler recirculated gas cuts NOx, protects the EGR valve and intake, and keeps turbo and cylinders happy. It is important for towing, hot climates, and city driving. With a healthy cooler, idle is smoother, fuel use drops, and emissions stay clean .
How it works
Exhaust passes through stainless tubes inside a compact heat exchanger. Engine coolant flows around these tubes and removes heat, so the EGR valve feeds cooler gas back to the engine. A warm-up bypass may stay shut when cold for faster start. Seals keep coolant and exhaust fully separate.
If the cooler fails ⚠️
Soot clog: weak power, higher NOx, rough idle, and codes like P0401/P0402. Cracked core: white steam from the tailpipe, sweet smell, coolant loss, cold cabin heater, hard start, and misfire. Keep driving and you risk overheating, turbo stress, and oil contaminated by coolant.
Fitting tips ✅
Use new gaskets, flush and bleed coolant, clean EGR passages, check hoses, and pressure-test. Torque evenly; do not twist thin tubes. After install, scan EGR flow and road test ️.
