Air Cleaner Air Flow Sensor (MAF) for Mitsubishi
This air flow sensor sits at the air cleaner outlet and measures how much air the engine breathes. The ECU uses this signal to set fuel injection, ignition timing, idle control, and turbo response (if equipped). In simple words: it tells the engine how to mix air and fuel correctly for power, smooth running, and low fuel use.
Why this sensor is needed ✅
Modern Mitsubishi engines rely on accurate airflow data to keep the air/fuel ratio stable. A healthy sensor helps prevent hesitation, supports clean emissions, and keeps automatic transmission shifting consistent under load.
How it works
Inside the sensor is a heated element/film. Incoming air cools it down; the sensor converts that cooling effect into a precise airflow signal. The ECU continuously adjusts fueling based on that reading, especially during acceleration and cold starts.
What happens when it’s faulty ⚠️
A dirty or failing unit can cause rough idle, stalling, weak pickup, poor fuel economy, black smoke, hard starting, and a check engine light. In severe cases the engine may go into limp mode, and the catalytic converter can be stressed by incorrect fueling.
