Engine Oil Pickup Strainer Assembly ️
This crucial inlet for the lubrication system sits in the oil pan and feeds the pump with clean oil. It keeps metal shavings, seal crumbs, and sludge from entering the pump and bearings, so your Toyota workhorse holds stable oil pressure on-road and off-road.
Why this part is needed ✅
Without a healthy pickup screen, the oil pump can’t get steady flow. Proper filtration at the sump protects crank, cam, timing set, and lifters. It also reduces dry starts and keeps oil pressure steady during hard braking, steep climbs, and rough trails.
How it works ️
A formed tube draws oil through a fine metal mesh. The screen stops debris, while the tube’s seal (O-ring/gasket) prevents air leaks. Bolted to the pump inlet, it primes quickly and delivers a solid column of oil to all galleries.
If it’s clogged or damaged ⚠️
Expect low oil pressure light, lifter tick, chain rattle, bearing knock, or overheating oil. A cracked tube or hard O-ring lets air in, causing cavitation and foamy oil. Continued driving can score journals and seize the engine.
Tech notes
Always clean the pan, inspect the pump, install a new seal, and torque fasteners to spec. Use fresh oil and a quality filter after replacement.
