Why you need it

Without a proper pickup screen, the pump can ingest debris, score its rotors, and send grit through galleries. The result is fast wear on cams, lifters, and crank journals. A healthy strainer is cheap insurance for the whole lubrication system.

The tube draws oil just above the pan floor while a fine mesh traps larger particles. Its sealed inlet and O-ring prevent air leaks, so the pump stays primed and avoids aeration. Correct pickup height keeps pressure steady during hard braking and cornering.
