This part is the heart of your engineβs lubrication system. It is needed to push clean oil from the sump through the oil filter and into every bearing, camshaft journal, and timing area. Without correct oil pressure, metal parts rub together, heat rises fast, and wear becomes permanent.
How it works π
Driven by the engine (gear/chain depending on model), the pump creates steady flow and pressure. It pulls oil through the pickup screen, compresses it inside the pump chamber, then sends it into the main oil galleries. A built-in pressure relief valve prevents over-pressure during cold starts.
Signs of a failing unit β οΈ
If itβs worn, clogged, or leaking internally, you may see an oil warning light, ticking on cold start, low pressure at idle, or noisy timing components. If it breaks completely, the engine can seize within minutesβspun bearings, scored crankshaft, and turbo/VVT damage (where fitted).
