Without a healthy seal, hot oil seeps out, pressure drops, and the cooler canβt do its job. Replacing the Oβring during service prevents costly messes and safeguards bearings and timing components.
How it works βοΈ
The ring sits in a machined groove between the cooler/adapter and engine block. When torqued, it compresses to create a static seal. Quality elastomer (like Viton) keeps elasticity under heat cycles and maintains a leakβfree joint.
What happens if it fails β οΈ
Oil drip near the filter area, burning smell, spotted driveway, low oil level, flickering oil light, and in extreme cases bearing damage. Over time, hardened or flattened seals lose preload and start weeping.
