    Timing Chain Tensioner Assembly ⚙️

    This engine component keeps the timing chain at the correct tightness so the camshaft and crankshaft stay perfectly synchronized. It is needed because the chain naturally stretches over time, and engine heat plus oil pressure changes can let slack appear. A good tensioner protects valve timing, power, and fuel economy.

    How It Works

    Inside the body, a spring and oil-pressure piston push on the chain guide. As the engine runs, oil pressure supports the piston to maintain steady chain tension. This reduces chain whip during cold starts and prevents the chain from jumping teeth under load.

    If It’s Worn or Broken

    Common signs are rattling on startup, rough idle, loss of power, and engine fault codes related to cam timing. If ignored, the chain can skip timing, causing misfire and, on many engines, serious valve-to-piston contact.
