How It Works ⚙️
The manifold is a shaped chamber with internal runners. When the engine creates vacuum, air is pulled through the throttle and distributed by the runners to each intake port. Its design helps keep airflow balanced and velocity correct, improving throttle response and fuel economy. Sensors and vacuum lines connected to the manifold rely on it being sealed and crack-free.
What Happens If It’s Broken ❗
Cracks, warped sealing surfaces, or damaged ports can cause vacuum leaks. This may lead to rough idle, misfires, loss of power, poor MPG, hard starting, whistling noises, lean fault codes, and overheating of nearby components. Long-term driving with leaks can damage catalytic components and cause repeated check-engine lights.
