This internal engine component is fitted to reduce vibration and harshness caused by crankshaft rotation and piston movement. Modern diesel and high-compression engines can produce strong secondary vibrations, and this shaft helps the engine run smoother, quieter, and with less cabin shake โ .
Why this part is needed
When the engine spins at low and mid RPM, natural imbalance can create a โbuzzโ through the block. A balance shaft assembly counteracts that force, protecting mounts, timing components, and the driverโs comfort.
How it works
The shaft carries precisely weighted lobes and spins in sync with the engine (at a calculated speed ratio). As it rotates, it generates an opposite vibration wave, cancelling unwanted engine tremor. Correct alignment and smooth bearings are critical for stable operation.
What happens if itโs worn or broken
