Crankshaft Timing Sprocket βοΈ for Toyota Engines
Why this part is needed
This hardened steel gear keeps the crankshaft and camshafts in perfect sync βοΈ. Correct valve timing gives clean starts, smooth idle, strong torque, and low fuel use. A precise sprocket also protects the timing chain and guides from uneven wear, extending the life of the whole front-end drive.
How it works
Keyed to the crank nose, the gear drives the timing chain and locks timing to factory marks. Its machined teeth mesh with the chain for stable rotation at all RPM. Heat-treated surfaces resist stretch, pitting, and micro-chipping caused by load reversals. Many setups use this gear as the reference for timing alignment during service .
What happens if itβs damaged
Wear or tooth chipping causes chain slack, rattle on cold start, misfires, poor power, and warning lights. Severe slip can throw cam/crank correlation, leading to no-start, bent valves, or metal debris in oil. If noise or shavings appear, stop driving and inspect immediately .
Pro fitment tips
- Align factory timing marks; rotate by hand two full turns to verify.
- Use a new crank bolt, key, and front seal for best results.
- Inspect chain, guides, and tensioner; replace as a set if worn.
- Clean mating surfaces; torque to spec; oil the chain on assembly.
