Crankshaft Timing Pulley for Toyota Engines βοΈ
This timing pulley sits on the crankshaft nose and guides the timing belt so the crank and camshafts stay perfectly synchronized. It is needed to keep valve timing accurate, maintain smooth power delivery, and protect the engine from internal contact.
How It Works
The crankshaft drives the pulley; the pulleyβs teeth and profile grip the timing belt and pull it at a fixed ratio. That motion turns the camshafts at the correct speed, keeping ignition and valve events in the right moment across idle, cruising, and load.
Signs of Wear & What Happens If It Breaks β
A worn pulley can cause belt tracking issues, ticking/whirring noises, belt dust, or timing drift. If the pulley cracks, loosens, or its teeth deform, the belt may jump or slipβleading to hard starting, misfire, loss of power, and in worst cases severe engine damage from incorrect valve timing.
