How it works π
The sprocket locks to the crank via key and center bolt. As the crank turns, the timing belt meshes with the teeth and transfers motion to the camshafts and water pump. What happens if itβs worn or damaged
Common signs: belt tracking off-center, chirping, metallic dust near the lower cover, rough idle, misfire, hard starts, poor fuel economy. If teeth wear or the hub wobbles, the belt can skip a tooth, causing no-start, backfire, and on interference engines, bent valves. Prolonged use can also chew up the belt and oil seal.
