Engine Valve Rocker Arm (Valve Train Lever) βοΈ
This valve train rocker arm is a precision lever that transfers camshaft motion to the engine valves. It is needed to open and close the intake/exhaust valves at the right time, helping the engine breathe correctly, keep stable idle, and deliver proper power and fuel economy.
How It Works
The rocker pivots on its shaft/fulcrum while the cam-driven push (or overhead mechanism, depending on engine design) presses one side and the other side pushes the valve tip. Correct geometry keeps valve lift accurate and reduces friction and noise.
What Happens If It Fails β
A worn or cracked rocker can cause ticking noises, misfire, rough running, loss of power, and poor compression. In severe cases it may stop a valve from opening, damage the valve tip, overload the cam/shaft, and lead to costly cylinder head repairs.
When to Replace β
Replace if you see heavy scoring, looseness, uneven contact pattern, heat discoloration, or persistent valve train noise after proper valve lash adjustment.
