Why you need this part
This small cylinder keeps the valvetrain quiet, accurate, and longβlasting. It sets zero lash between cam and valve, maintains correct valve timing, and reduces wear. With a healthy lifter, the engine breathes right, idles smooth, and delivers proper power and fuel economy β½.
How it works
Oil pressure fills the lifter body and plunger. A tiny check valve traps oil to hold a constant length as the cam lobe rotates. This automatic adjustment cancels thermal expansion and keeps the rocker/valve clearance correct. Result: precise lift, less friction, and stable cam contact even at high RPM οΈ.
What happens if it fails
Ticking at start or hot, rough idle, loss of power, and misfires. Prolonged use can cause cam lobe scuffing, bent push contact surfaces, metal debris in oil, and higher oil consumption. In extreme cases, a stuck lifter holds a valve open, burning the valve and damaging the catalytic converter β οΈ.
Choose OE-spec hardness, accurate oil gallery machining, and clean assembly. Always pair with fresh oil and filter; prime with clean oil before install.
