Engine Valve Lifter (Hydraulic Tappet) ?️
This internal engine part is needed to keep the valve train running smooth and quiet. It maintains the correct gap between the camshaft and the valve mechanism, so the engine can breathe properly at every RPM. When the clearance is right, you get stable idle, strong pull, and reduced wear on the cam and valves.
How it works ?
The lifter rides on the cam lobe and transfers that motion to open and close the valves. In hydraulic type, it uses engine oil pressure to self-adjust, taking up tiny clearance changes caused by heat and normal wear. This automatic adjustment helps prevent ticking noise and keeps valve timing consistent.
What happens if it fails ⚠️
A worn or stuck lifter can cause tapping/knocking sounds, misfires, rough idle, and power loss. If ignored, it may accelerate camshaft wear, damage valve train parts, and in worst cases lead to poor compression or costly top-end repairs. Clean oil and correct viscosity are critical for long service life.
