Proper lash prevents hammering and heat build-up. With the right bucket, the cam rides on a stable oil film, reducing friction and wear. It keeps valve lift and duration as designed, improving efficiency, emissions, and fuel economy.
How it works 🔧
A solid bucket sits over the valve stem/shim and under the camshaft. As the lobe rotates, it pushes the bucket to open the valve. The bucket’s face is ground to micro-finish, and engine oil lubricates the contact. Thickness is matched to achieve spec lash when hot and cold.
What happens if it’s worn or broken ❗
Symptoms include ticking on start, rough idle, misfire, loss of power, and metal flakes in oil. Severe wear can score the cam, burn valves, and lower compression—leading to costly head work.
