This precision valve-train part is needed to keep the correct clearance between the camshaft and the engine valves. By automatically taking up tiny gaps as the engine warms up and parts expand, it helps the motor run smooth, quiet, and efficient. In simple terms: it keeps the valve timing action consistent, mile after mile.
How It Works ⚙️
Inside the lifter is a small oil-fed piston. Engine oil pressure fills the internal chamber and “pumps up” the lifter, creating a firm contact point for the cam lobe. This steady support lets the valve open to the right lift and close fully, improving combustion quality and reducing valve-train noise.
Why Replacing a Worn Lifter Matters ?
If the lifter becomes dirty, collapses, or sticks, you may hear ticking/knocking at idle, notice rough running, and feel a loss of power. Continued driving with a faulty lifter can lead to poor valve sealing, misfires, accelerated camshaft wear, and in severe cases valve-train damage.
