Engine Cooling Fan Clutch — Viscous Type for Mitsubishi Trucks/SUVs ?
This unit controls the radiator fan speed to keep engine temperature stable and A/C performance strong. It engages more at low road speed or hot idle, pulling extra air through the radiator and condenser. On the highway it frees the fan, saving fuel and reducing noise. Why you need it
A healthy fan clutch prevents overheating in traffic, protects the head gasket, and keeps cabin A/C cold at stops. It’s a critical link between the engine and cooling airflow.
How it works
A temperature‑sensing bimetal coil opens an internal valve, letting silicone fluid lock the fan hub to the pulley. As air off the radiator heats up, coupling increases; when temperature drops, it releases for quieter, lighter rotation.
What happens if it fails ⚠️
Stuck off: overheating at idle, weak A/C at stoplights, coolant boil-over. Stuck on: loud constant roar, sluggish warm-up, higher fuel use. Other signs: silicone oil seep, wobble, or play at the fan hub.
Tech notes
Check shroud alignment, belt condition, and fan blade cracks. Many setups use a reverse-thread fan nut—loosen with care. Always torque to spec and verify free spin when cold.
