This internal engine part links the piston to the crankshaft and turns straight up-down piston movement into crank rotation. It is needed to keep combustion power moving evenly through the engine, reduce vibration, and maintain correct piston travel. The small end supports the piston pin, while the big end clamps around the crank journal with bearing shells. As the piston fires, the rod pushes and pulls the crankshaft, keeping timing and balance stable. Proper lubrication prevents metal-to-metal contact and stops overheating during long drives.
What Happens If Itβs Worn or Broken ?
A damaged rod can cause knocking noises, low oil pressure, misfire-like shaking, and loss of power.
