Timing Chain Tensioner Assembly for Nissan βοΈοΈ
This precision tensioner keeps the timing chain tight, so camshaft and crankshaft stay perfectly in sync. You need it to protect valve timing, maintain power, and keep starts quiet. A healthy unit reduces chain slap, lowers wear on guides, and helps the ECU hold stable ignition and fuel maps. Ideal as an OE-grade replacement during chain service or when engine rattle appears.
How it works
Inside is a spring-loaded plunger backed by engine oil pressure. On startup the spring takes up slack; once oil pressure rises, the plunger extends further and a ratcheting mechanism locks tension. A hardened shoe presses the chain with constant force. A check valve prevents collapse when the engine is off, keeping the chain controlled on cold starts.
What happens if it fails β οΈ
Cold-start rattle, loss of power, misfires, and poor fuel economy can appear. The chain may jump a tooth, causing rough idle or no start. In severe cases, valves can meet pistons, leading to costly engine damage. Metal debris and accelerated guide wear are common side effects.
Pro tips for install
Prime with clean oil, replace gasket/seal, inspect guides and chain, torque to spec, and verify timing marks. Change oil after first heat cycle.
