Engine Coolant Inlet Housing for Nissan SUVs
This coolant inlet housing, often called a water neck, is a key junction in the cooling system. It guides coolant from the lower radiator hose into the pump and engine block, sealing with a gasket or O-ring to keep pressure and flow steady. A healthy inlet keeps temperatures stable on-road and off-road, protecting the head, gasket, and thermostat.
Why this part is needed
It maintains a leak-free path for coolant, prevents air from entering the circuit, and supports correct warm-up and cooling under load. Without it, the system canβt hold pressure or circulate coolant efficiently.
How it works
Mounted on the front of the engine, the housing forms a rigid spigot for the radiator hose. As the water pump draws coolant, the inlet directs flow smoothly into the block. Its machined flange and sealing ring stop seepage, while the neck geometry reduces turbulence and cavitation.
What happens if itβs broken
Cracks, warped flanges, or corroded ports cause leaks, low coolant level, hot spots, and overheating. You may smell coolant, see damp hoses, or get temperature spikes. Prolonged failure risks head gasket damage and engine wear.
Replacement tips β
Use a new gasket/O-ring, clean mating surfaces, torque evenly, fit a quality hose and clamp, refill with the correct coolant, and bleed air thoroughly. Inspect for electrolysis and replace any swollen hoses.
