Premium Connecting Rod Bearing Shells οΈ
This precision engine bearing supports each rod on the crankshaft, keeping a stable oil film between moving parts. It reduces friction, centers the rod, and protects the crank journals under high loads. Without it, no smooth rotation, no quiet operation, no long engine life.
Why itβs needed
During every power stroke, huge forces push the rod against the crank. The bearing spreads that load and maintains correct clearance for oil pressure. It prevents metal-to-metal contact, heat build-up, and scoring. Perfect for fresh builds or quieting a tired bottom end. βοΈ
How it works
Two half-shells lock into the rod and cap with crush-fit and tangs. Engine oil forms a hydrodynamic wedge as the crank spins, floating the journal on a thin film. Tri-metal layers (steel backing, copper/lead core, anti-friction overlay) balance strength and softness.
When worn or failed
- Cold-start or hot idle knock (rod knock)
- Low oil pressure, rising temps
- Glitter in oil filter/sump
- Scored journals, spun bearing, possible seizure
Pro tips
Measure journals, choose correct size (STD/oversize), verify clearance with plastigage, use assembly lube, torque/angle to spec, and keep everything surgically clean. Replace as a set; polish or grind crank if marked.
