Why this part is needed

How it works β½
Two thin-shell halves sit in the rod and cap, locking by tangs. With pressurized oil, they float on a micro-thin film, so the rod rotates smoothly around the crank journal. Bimetal/trimetal layers resist fatigue and scoring.
