This precision gear mounts on the crank nose and drives the timing chain ⛓️. It locks the crank to the camshafts, keeping valve timing exact for smooth power, clean emissions, and good fuel economy. Why you need it
With age, teeth round off and the bore/keyway can loosen. That shifts timing, causes start-up rattle, rough idle, loss of torque, and metal glitter in oil. Replacing this gear during a timing chain service restores correct phasing and protects your engine investment.
How it works ️
The sprocket is keyed to the crankshaft, turning the chain which drives the cam sprockets at a fixed ratio. Timing marks align during setup, ensuring valves open when pistons are in the right position. Proper tooth profile and surface hardening minimize friction and stretch.
