Crankshaft Timing Sprocket ⚙️
This engine timing sprocket is a key link between the crankshaft and the timing chain. It is needed to keep valve timing correct, so the pistons and valves move in the right order. When this gear is in good shape, the engine starts easier, idles smoother, and keeps strong power without timing drift.
How it works ?️
The sprocket sits on the crank nose and drives the timing chain. Its teeth hold the chain pitch accurately, keeping camshafts synchronized with crank rotation. Proper tooth profile and tight fit prevent chain jump and reduce timing noise.
Symptoms when worn or damaged ❗
If the sprocket teeth wear, crack, or the fit loosens, the chain can ride poorly, stretch faster, or skip a tooth. That may cause rattling, misfires, poor acceleration, check-engine lights, and in worst cases piston-to-valve contact and major engine damage.
