Crankshaft Timing Sprocket for Nissan Engines ⚙️
This engine timing gear drives the chain that syncs crankshaft and camshafts. Built from hardened steel with precise tooth form, it locks on the crank nose and keeps valve timing exact. Ideal for chain service or noisy cold starts, it restores tight timing and smooth power delivery .
Why your engine needs it
With mileage, teeth wear and the keyway can oval. That adds slack, makes rattles, rough idle, poor fuel economy, and late/early valve events. Refreshing the crank gear during chain, guides, and tensioner work prevents repeat teardown and protects your engine investment.
How it works ⛓️
The sprocket slides over the crank snout, aligns via key/dowel, and transfers rotation to the timing chain and related drives (often oil pump). Correct pitch and heat treatment resist stretch and tooth peening. Timing marks ensure TDC alignment for accurate cam phasing.
If the gear fails ❗
Expect chain skip, no-start, backfire, loss of power, metal shavings in oil, and in interference setups, possible valve-to-piston contact. A sheared key can throw timing instantly—stop the engine and replace parts at once to avoid major damage.
Install tips
Clean crank snout, inspect the key, align marks, seat fully, and torque to spec. Replace chain, guides, and tensioner together. Prime tensioner and verify timing twice before first start.
