Engine Timing Cover Assembly
This OE-grade front housing seals the timing area of your Toyota engine, keeping oil inside and road dust out. It protects the chain and sprockets, guides lubricant to the tensioner, and keeps components aligned under heat and vibration. A rigid alloy body with a molded gasket groove and front crank seal ensures a tight fit and long service life.
Why you need it β
Over time, covers can warp or crack and gaskets harden. Replacing restores correct oil control, stops messy leaks, and prevents contamination of belts and sensors. A healthy sealed system means quieter running, stable timing, and lower wear.
How it works
Bolted to the block, the cover pairs with a perimeter gasket and a crankshaft seal. It forms an oil-tight chamber around the chain/cams, controlling splash and pressure so the hydraulic tensioner stays fed and timing remains accurate.
If it fails β
Symptoms include oil drips, burnt-oil smell, timing noise, misfire codes, and low tensioner pressure. Prolonged leaks can lead to chain damage or even engine failure due to oil loss.
Tech tips
Clean mating faces, install new gasket and crank seal, add RTV at joint corners, torque in sequence, and recheck for leaks after warm-up.
