Engine Balance Chain
This internal timing-side chain is made to drive the engine’s balance system ⚙️. Its job is to keep rotating balance shafts synchronized, so the engine runs smoother and with less vibration. You need this part when the original chain is stretched, noisy, or when doing a full engine rebuild where correct balance timing matters.
How It Works
The chain links the crankshaft drive to the balancer shafts. As RPM rises, it keeps the shafts spinning at the correct speed and phase, cancelling out secondary vibrations. Proper chain tension helps maintain accurate timing and quiet operation.
Signs of Wear & What Happens If It Fails
If the chain is worn or damaged, you may notice rattling, rough idle, extra vibration, or a harsh buzzing feel through the cabin . When it breaks or jumps timing, the balance shafts go out of sync, causing strong vibration, faster bearing wear, and possible damage to guides, tensioners, and timing covers. Ignoring it can turn a small repair into a major engine job.
