Engine Crank Drive Pulley ⚙️
This crank drive pulley is a key part on the front of the engine. It is needed to transfer rotation from the crankshaft to the accessory belt, so your alternator, power steering (if equipped), and A/C can work correctly. Without a healthy pulley, belt-driven systems lose stability and the engine bay can become noisy and unsafe.
How It Works
The pulley bolts to the crankshaft and spins at engine speed. Its grooves guide the belt and keep proper tracking. Many designs also help damp small torsional vibrations from the crank, protecting bearings and helping the belt run smooth under load.
What Happens If It Fails ❗
A worn, cracked, or wobbling pulley can shred or throw the belt, causing charging problems, weak A/C performance, heavy steering, overheating (on some setups), and sudden breakdown. You may notice squealing, vibration, belt dust, or a visible wobble. Replace it early to avoid belt damage and accessory failure.
