Why this part is needed
This positive crankcase ventilation unit keeps your engine breathing right by routing blowβby gases from the crankcase to the intake. It stabilizes idle, protects gaskets, reduces sludge, and helps your Toyota meet emissions standards . A fresh, calibrated valve keeps vacuum levels correct and prevents oil mist from coating the intake system.
How it works
Inside is a springβloaded poppet with a metered orifice. At idle and cruise, intake vacuum opens the valve to pull vapors in a controlled way. Under heavy load or backfire, it limits flow to protect seals and avoid mixture spikes. The precise metering maintains fuel trims and keeps the catalytic converter happy.
What happens if itβs broken
When stuck open or clogged, expect rough idle, whistling, oil consumption, oily throttle body, and fuel trims going lean (MIL on with P0171/P0174) β οΈ. Pressure imbalance can force oil past seals, causing leaks and sludge. Long term, hoses crack and the catalyst may suffer from contamination.
