This small but vital valve assembly is needed to control crankcase fumes and keep engine pressure stable. During normal running, blow-by gases slip past piston rings and build up inside the crankcase. This part routes those vapors back into the intake so they can be burned cleanly, helping reduce oil contamination and sludge. β
How It Works
Inside the housing, a calibrated valve opens and closes with engine vacuum. At idle, it limits flow to prevent a lean mixture. Under load, it allows more ventilation to relieve pressure. The result is smoother idle, cleaner oil, and fewer leaks around seals and gaskets.
What Happens If It Fails
A stuck-closed valve can cause pressure buildup, oil leaks, wet air hoses, and smoking from the breather. A stuck-open or leaking valve may create rough idle, higher fuel use, hesitation, and engine codes from unmetered air. Over time, poor ventilation accelerates sludge and shortens engine life. β οΈ
