Piston Ring Set for Subaru Boxer Engines ?
Why this part is needed
This set seals the cylinder, keeps compression high, and controls oil on the bore. Good rings mean strong power, clean burn, and low oil use. They also protect the cylinder walls and keep emissions in check ?.How it works
Each piston uses three rings. The top ring locks combustion pressure. The second ring helps seal and scrapes gases back down. The oil control ring (with expander) meters a thin oil film, then returns extra oil through drain holes. Rings ride in piston grooves, flex with heat, and maintain a tight gas seal against the honed cylinder. What happens if rings fail
Worn or broken rings cause blow‑by, low compression, rough idle, and loss of power. You may see blue smoke, rising oil use, fuel smell in oil, fouled plugs, and even catalyst damage. Hard starts and detonation under boost are common ⚠️.Pro install tips
- Hone bores and clean until no grit remains. - Set ring end gaps to spec and “clock” gaps 120° apart. - Check groove clearance, fit pins and rods correctly, lube with clean oil, and follow torque and run‑in steps ✅.Compatibility
