OEM-Spec Piston Ring Kit for Subaru Boxer Engines 🔧
Why you need it
This precision ring kit restores engine compression and oil control in Subaru flat engines. It’s essential during a rebuild, after high mileage, or when you notice oil burning, power loss, or uneven idle. Replacing worn rings brings back throttle response, stabilizes fuel economy, and protects the catalytic converter from oil-fouling.
How it works
The set includes a top compression ring, a second scraper ring, and a three-piece oil control ring with expander. Under combustion pressure, the rings press against the cylinder wall, sealing the chamber and guiding excess oil back to the sump. Correct end-gap and proper ring “clocking” ensure a gas-tight seal, while a light plateau hone keeps an even oil film so the rings bed in fast.
What happens if it’s worn or broken ⚠️
Expect low compression, hard starting, misfires, blue smoke, high crankcase pressure, and rising oil use. You may see fouled plugs, diluted oil, and a clogged PCV. Continued driving risks cylinder scoring, bearing damage, and costly repairs.
Tech tips
Measure groove clearance, set end-gaps to spec, de-glaze bores, and keep ring orientation clean and dry. Always replace as a full set.
