OEM Cylinder Head Cover Gasket Kit for Honda Engines
Why this part matters
This gasket kit seals the valve (rocker) cover to the cylinder head, keeping engine oil where it belongs and dirt out. A tight seal maintains proper crankcase ventilation and protects ignition coils from oil. It’s the go-to fix for seepage around the cam cover and oil in spark plug wells. Using a fresh kit prevents mess, odor, and costly follow-up repairs.
How it works ⚙️
A molded, heat-resistant rubber profile sits between the cover and head. When the cover bolts are torqued, the gasket compresses to create an oil-tight barrier. The kit typically includes spark plug tube seals and bolt grommets: tube seals stop oil from entering plug wells, while grommets keep uniform clamp load and prevent micro leaks. Small beads of RTV are applied at cam cap joints to reinforce corners.
What happens when it fails
- Oil leaks along the cover edge or into plug tubes
- Burning oil smell or smoke near the exhaust manifold
- Misfire, rough idle, and coil damage from oil contamination
- Low oil level, dirty engine bay, risk to catalytic converter
Tech notes
Replace the gasket, tube seals, and grommets together. Clean mating surfaces, avoid over-torque, and follow a crisscross sequence. Add a pea-sized RTV at timing cover-cam cap corners. If plug wells had oil, inspect coils and plugs.
