Engine Oil Sump Pan ️
This metal pan sits at the bottom of the engine and is needed to safely store engine oil between circulations. It also helps cool the oil by exposing a wide surface to airflow, keeping lubrication stable during daily driving and higher RPM use.
How It Works ⚙️
Oil drains down from the engine into the pan, where it collects in a deep section (sump). The oil pump pickup draws oil from this reservoir and sends it through the filter and galleries to bearings, cam parts, and turbo-style loads (if equipped). A tight seal with gasket/sealant prevents leaks, while the drain plug allows clean oil changes.
When It’s Damaged
A bent or cracked pan can cause slow leaks or sudden oil loss. If the pan is dented, it may restrict the oil pickup, leading to low oil pressure, noisy lifters, bearing wear, overheating oil, and in worst cases engine seizure. Damaged threads at the drain plug can also cause постоянные drips and messy servicing.
