Engine Crankshaft Main Bearing – OEM Grade ️

This precision bearing supports the crankshaft and keeps it centered in the block. It spreads engine load, holds oil pressure, and creates a smooth, low-friction surface so your motor runs quiet and strong. Built to exact clearances for long life and clean cold starts.

Why you need it

Proper main bearings protect the crank journals, stabilize rotating mass, and maintain the vital oil film. They prevent metal-to-metal contact, reduce heat, and preserve horsepower and fuel economy. Ideal when rebuilding, curing low oil pressure, or after overheating.

How it works ⚙️

Two half-shells clamp around each journal inside the main caps. With the correct crush and clearance, pressurized oil forms a hydrodynamic film that the crank “floats” on. A steel backing with a tri-metal/bi-metal overlay provides strength, embed-ability, and wear resistance. Oil grooves and holes feed the film continuously.

What happens if it fails ❗

Knocking at idle, low oil pressure, metal glitter in oil, high temps. Continued use can score journals, spin a bearing, starve rods, and seize the engine—often requiring a full rebuild or crank replacement.

Technician’s notes ✅

Match size/grade, measure clearance (Plastigage), lube on assembly, torque caps in sequence, verify journal finish, and prime the oil system. Replace thrust set if specified.
