Camshaft Timing Gear for Mitsubishi Engines ⚙️
This precision cam gear keeps valve timing synchronized with the crankshaft, ensuring smooth power, low emissions, and reliable starts. Made from hardened steel with accurate tooth geometry, it’s built for long life in daily driving and tough climates.
Why you need it
The gear links the timing chain/belt to the camshaft. Exact phasing controls when valves open and close, protecting piston-to-valve clearance. Correct timing improves torque, fuel economy, and overall engine health.
How it works
Mounted on the cam nose with a dowel/key and a torqued center bolt, the sprocket meshes with the chain. Timing marks align with factory references. On MIVEC-equipped engines, oil-controlled advance/retard acts through this gear to fine-tune valve timing.
If it’s worn or broken
Symptoms include start-up rattle, rough idle, weak acceleration, higher fuel use, and cam/crank correlation codes (P0016/P0017). Chipped teeth or wobble can make timing jump, risking misfire or bent valves—serious engine damage.
Tech tips
Replace during chain service or when teeth, keyway, or bolt seat show wear. Use a new center bolt, follow torque + angle, verify timing marks, rotate the engine twice by hand, and update guides/tensioner. Clean oil keeps MIVEC and chain happy.
